Making Wishes . . .

Making Wishes (watercolor 9" x 11")
. . . for sweet sunny summer days . . . for crisp cool evenings by the fire . . . for long lazy hours listening to the sea . . . with good food and good friends all around . . .
The wonderful folks who host the Seaview Manor Bazaar asked me to paint the poster for their event this year. Every fall they invite a small number of talented artists and craftspeople to sell their wares at a beautiful beachside home in Seaside, Oregon. A generous percentage of profits are donated to the local Women's Resource Center. In October, I will make my way to Seaside to be a part of this event for a third time.

Coming Home . . .

black walnut ink/watercolor about 4" x 4.5" (please click images to enlarge)

Just a walk up the hill - and you're in from the chill - whether you're big or small - you're welcome, one and all.

A note regarding the black walnut ink: On a morning in November a friend and I gathered black walnuts that had fallen from their mother tree. We boiled them all day on a wood stove, strained them, and poured the remaining liquid into small glass jars. It produced the most beautiful warm brown color with just a hint of green. Coming Home was painted with this ink, and only the faint blue sky and yellow house have been done in watercolor. This photo was taken just as we set the black walnuts on to boil (they are still in their husks, so they look like apples here).

Moongazer

On clear fall evenings, if you take some time to look at the sky, you may find someone else looking, too.

In the Village Beyond the Wood . . .

In the village beyond the wood there lies a long-forgotten path. Near it flows the littlest of streams, and there I saw a sight so sweet.

Here they have been for so long a time with their lives intertwined. Through ups and downs and all-arounds, here they stay . . . as forever they may.

Market Day!

It seems that Spring has Sprung and Summer shall Arrive soon. The first day of the Astoria Sunday Market is almost upon us. The day after today (also known as Tomorrow) I will be pitching my tent, assembling my For Sale-ables, and hoping that someone besides myself finds my little Imp irresistible. The image above is a watercolor painting I made for my business card. For those of you that can come by, I hope to see you there!

Several weeks ago I started sketching these two imps and wrote a charming rhyme to accompany them.

Hello There . . .

Hello there, this is the beginning of my blog and website. Here I will share with you the world I call Folklings in my little studio by the sea. If you happen to see something that tickles your fancy I do hope you will let me know.
